Kevan, we're not supposed to like Shaw at this point. Team Bartowski doesn't like him, we don't like him.

On several different occasions he has mentioned not liking guns.  You have to believe this is going to play out somehow.  I wouldn't be surprised if his dislike for guns has some relationship with the wedding band he pulled out of the box.

On another note. ..Sarah really has problems with "chick bad guys"!  She really needs to stick with fighting the muscle men and leave the chicks to Casey.

I guess I'm the only one that likes him.

I don't like Shaw either but I think by the end we will like him just like Cole. But about the ring maybe he and Sarah will get together because they are both heartbroken (Shaw with who ever gave him the ring and Sarah seeing Chuck with Hannah). That’s just my guess but it will make me feel better that its Chuck fault for once that Sarah ends up in another man’s hands

I know that.  I read your article.  I'm saying that I don't like characters like him as a rule.

There's certainly a 'gun thing' going on, both with Chuck and Shaw. I'm not sure yet where the show is trying to go with it.

Also another parallel is Big Mike telling Morgan to point and shoot, or something like that.

Is it me or does there seem to be more (for lack or a better word) "gratuitous" violence this season, when compared to the previous two?

Karl's head shot to fellow carrying the case. Shaw shooting himself.

Oh, and by my count we've seen 2 bullet wounds.

Seems to have raised the rating from PG to PG-13, which is fine and I like it. But I've noticed my wife wincing at some of it especially when the kids are watching. Don't get me wrong I'm sure they play video games that are worst.

Please note I am not “putting down” the show. The entire Mediocre clan watches and will continue to do so. Just wondering what people think.

(OD, if this is in the wrong spot, please move.)

And I agree, the gun thing will likely be one of Chuck’s major obstacles in becoming a spy.

It does seem to have gone up some. I guess the show is trying to go a tad 'darker' this season with Chuck's entry into spyworld.

The violence is certainly more graphic this season, which makes sense if we're to assume that The Ring is a serious threat, the stakes are higher, etc. Still, I had to have a little talk with my nieces (8 & 10) before, during and after 3.01 and 3.02 about the violence, innuendo and language. They didn't seem bothered, but I still worry.

I still think Shaw shooting himself was one of the most memorable character intros the show has done.

It will be interesting to see where they go with the gun thing.  Something tells me that one day Chuck will flash with a real gun in his hand.  But that will be less dramatic than having him consciously choose to shoot.

The wedding ring is because his cover will be Sarah's husband I think. Total angst time. I think it's ridiculous that we're starting over with Chuck and Sarah and they we're supposed to believe that he'd accept "friends" without trying to work things out with her.He chased her around for the first 2 eps trying to "talk" to her b/c he was so distraught after eating cheese balls in his robe for however long and moping over the loss of her and his spy gig. It's like all that fire he had to make it right just vanished in an effort to keep them apart all season. Now they're friends who fall for other people? Who does that? You try to get her back...you explain..you don't act like nothing happened now.

Absolutely, on Shaw's entrance. Especially when compared to say              Roan's. ;)

Overall, a very good episode. I think I will rate it tops of the 4 so far. A couple of points, clearly there is some character growth going on with both Devon and Morgan here. Morgan manning up and taking the "ass-man" position at Big Mike's request is a definite change, in that he chose (if somewhat hesitantly) to take the responsibility instead of trying to be the perpetual slacker. Also his treatment of Lester near the end. IMO this is part of the setup for what apparently happens later in the season (trying to avoid the spoiler here).

I thought Chuck deciding to use his own non-intersect abilities to develop the better plan Shaw pressed him for was interesting. Was also a bit disappointed that he didn't flash in the cage when Sydney was putting the beat down on Sarah, and take her out. I really expected that him seeing her treat Sarah that way would trigger a violent (but not gunshot) reaction. After 3x01, where he jumped off the stage to protect Sarah from being shot, this would have been the result I expected.

At this point, I am indifferent on Shaw. He seems to be a good guy (with some baggage, as seen in the closing shot) based on what little we know, but I am reserving judgment until this arc plays out a bit more. It seems obvious that he is there with the objective to force Chuck into being a real spy, even if the means are unorthodox, as in the shootout in the Buy More. Yet, there will almost certainly be ulterior motives for his arrival.

I thought that Casey's reaction to Shaw's order of no backup when Chuck was pinned down was telling. While Casey is supportive of Chuck now, and even looks out for him in ways that never could have happened in season 1, he is still reluctant to show it.  Previous such actions were confined to just the 3 members of team Bartowski. That he did so in front of Shaw so soon after his arrival is notable I think. Also the fact that he joined everyone for dinner at the end with Shaw watching says a lot.

Finally, does anyone else think the cover story for Devon's long absence (Casey being drunk and, uh, immodest) will come back to cause further problems/humor later on? I don't think this was a one-shot line, kind of like the Spastic Colon bit that has been a running gag for 3 seasons now.
