As part of our plan to support Chuck and, we hope, draw new viewers to the show during the hiatus between seasons 2 and 3, Chuck fans are invited to join Chuck Me Mondays beginning June 1st. Thanks so much to Richard for coming up with the idea for the viewing parties, Wendy Farrington for coming up with the name, and Magnus (aka DarthRazorback) for leading the charge. Here’s the lowdown:
What:
We’re watching Chuck from the beginning as a group.
When:
Mondays @ 9PM ET beginning June 1st with episode 1.01 for Americans (North and South). Europeans are invited to watch Mondays @ 8PM GMT. (Not sure what time to watch where you live? Find out here.)
Where:
Up to date details on the plans for the week can be found at CMM HQ as well as here at ChuckTV.net.
How:
If you have Season 1 on DVD/Blu-ray or iTunes/Amazon download, then you’re all set! If not, then TheWB.com has you covered (as long as you live in the U.S.) with their streaming episodes of Chuck. We are waiting for season 2 to be available online before we begin watching it as a group.
That’s the gist of it! Now spread the word, invite your friends, and we’ll see you on Chuck Me Monday!
Watch your favorite TV show without breaking the bank with these DirecTV deals!
please help!!!!!!! How do you get into twitter and does a computer need any special equipment
I know very little about twitter, but you go to http://www.twitter.com .It is a free service. Once you sign up then you can register a mobile device and post updates from your cellphone. Best bet is to look at the twitter website for answers. I just signed up last night, but I have never used it before.
Also there is nothing to install on the computer. It is a website service for relaying information. No special equipment is needed.
Can we perhaps have a catchy slogan for the part where everybody buys a Footlong from Subway on Mondays to go with their viewing?
I was thinking along the lines of “Footlong for a Full Season of Chuck”. (Or perhaps something a little shorter. Any slogan writers out there?) Maybe Subway will think about encouraging the network to order the back nine eps.
So watch the show, definitely, but also think of buying your Subway products ON MONDAYS so they can see the spike in sales on one day and connect it with fan support. Don’t forget to fill out your comment card or comment on the website with every purchase.
I will make it a point to get a footlong Subway (and drop a thank you note) when I watch Chuck on nbc.com Monday.
Great idea verkisto!
How about “Join the Nerd Herd and Stampede to Subway on Mondays” 🙂
Hey, I’m from Brazil, and I don’t know if I will can watch…
Slogan idea:
“HERD into Subway for Chuck Me Mondays!!!”
Another slogan idea:
“Chuck- Chuck-Monday Footloooong” (sung to a catchy ditty)
Honestly: a lot of the publicity ideas I hear in various quarters are tuned to people *who are already fans*.
Making noise about your fandom is a good thing (though google ‘fanboi’), but what we’re looking for is something that will hook *new* viewers.
That is: we’re doing the NBC publicity department’s work for them. Face it: there is nothing that will pump Chuck’s numbers like a :30 every hour during the entire Olympics.
And there’s no way we can control that. Unless we get Zac and Yvonne to do :30 tie-in ads for Subway, and convince Subway to buy some time there.
Anyone know a Doctors’ Associates exec?
How/when will the twitter username list be distributed? A message in the forums this weekend?
To help spread the word about Chuck, how about wearing a green shirt on Mondays. I recently bought some new polo shirts from Lands End. When I put on the green one and looked in the mirror, my first thought was that I looked like a Buy More employee. If your company’s dress code allows polos, join in. People will eventually ask why you wear the same green shirt every Monday. Also a sly way to identify Chuckies. Wear Green – Eat Subway – Watch Chuck!
This is a great idea, until we wait season 3, we’re going to watch a review of season 1 and 2.
Aweson!!
Count me in, but I’ll need to do a West Coast time frame. Who is up for joining me on Twitter at 8pm PT on Mondays?
@Jen: For maximum impact, it’s best if everyone is watching, discussing and Tweeting at the same time.
I set up a twitter account (Charah673), but I really have no clue what I am doing. Plus I might add until recently I have been essentially computerless for a couple of years. I had been getting by with a Blackberry with web access, but I am really in the dark ages..lol. Other then Chuck Me Monday being the current campaign name is that also a twitter name? If it is, twitter says it doesn’t exist. I tried ChuckMeMondays and all variations. Nothing comes back. Also #followfriday what is this? Is there any significants to the # sign? It also comes back saying no twitter account exist with that username. I tried various variations as well. I was able to add some of the names from the twitter list discussed on the forum, but some also came back that they don’t exist. Any pointers, tips, or advise for a twitter/computer dummy (me)??? Also Charah673 is registered to work on the forum, but again I have no clue as to what I am doing, so I just view the forum.
Pls. feel free to add @Mrshekmi to follow. I will be joining in on Mondays!
Okay, so the Tweeter Find People search engine doesn’t work well. Using the topic search engine does work for finding people. Also I am assuming that # refers to the number of hits as result of searching through topics? And to have as many hits as possible? So Monday everyone typing Chuck Me Monday will create a high number of hits and create additional news?? Like with Google Searches?
Watching on the WB instead of on DVDs (or as well as) will spike numbers that the studio at least can see, and possibly will pass on to NBC. Also, as the idea is to make new viewers, we should all work at helping those poor benighted souls who haven’t seen Chuck, get to have the same fun we have had.
So have Chuck Me parties and invite your friends (especially the ones who haven’t seen it) over to see the show. Bribe them if necessary by splitting your footlong with them (or go wild and spring for one for each of you) the first couple of times. Nothing makes people more willing to try a new show than free food, right? Well, free beer, of course. Get strangers by changing your sig file everywhere to a link to this post or something with the phrase “Chuck Me Monday” which has got to make at least some people who see it curious enough to click.
If the organizers of the idea have the energy and can raise the wherewithal, a specific webpage might be a cool place to point people to. A quick lookup seems to indicate that chuckmemonday.info would be pretty cheap to get. Hosting and content would be a different matter of course… But links to wb’s episodes, the Twitter and skype chat locations, and a “what we’re doing” bit might be plenty of content. It doesn’t have to be super flashy to get the job done.
Our job as fans who made noise is to get enough eyeballs on the screen when Chuck season 3 starts up. After that it is up to Schwartz, Fedak, Levi, Strahovski, Baldwin, et al. And I am sure they can do it. Because after all, the reason we’re motivated fans is because it is so good.
I like the green shirts on Mondays idea too. Or a Nerd Herd shirt of course. Or maybe t-shirts that say “Chuck Me on Mondays”.
Ok. Since I find I’ve neglected to link it here, I’ve created a PDF one-sheet, suitable for hanging on bulletin boards in office, laundromats, and the like, promoting RewatchChuck to the general public.
It’s ready, I think, for wide release, though if chucktv.net wants to make a really small URL with a redirect to this page which I could put in the copy, that’d be even better.
It’s at http://images.baylink.com/chuck/onesheet1.pdf
I’ll watch!
I did a writeup on *how* to use Twitter to follow along with the fun, for Alan Sepinwall at the Star Ledger; I believe he’ll be running some version of it in his column tomorrow; it’s not really complicated, though: use the Search box to search for “#watchchuck”, and Twitter will update automagically.
If you want to make a comment yourself, just add that same “hashtag”, #watchchuck, at the end, so everyone else will see your comment too.
It’s kinda like CB radio, but you can make up the channels yourself. 🙂
Except of course that The Powers That Be have chosen a different hashtag, now, after I posted the onesheet yesterday… no, excuse me, *two* different hashtags.
It was changed to #chuckmemondays since that is the name of the campaign. It just makes it easier in the long run. Otherwise, people will get confused.
I can’t wait until tommorow hopefully i will hear some funny stuff or cool comments
this is just a test if the pic doesn’t work delete this comment even though I love the show chuck
there are some very cool ideas and slogans here!
my contribution:
ChuckMeMondays avatar (posted only on Mondays (maybe late Sundays) reverting to regular avatar the rest of the week if twitter starts cooperating).
text:
We’ve got the fans – let’s get the rest. The push for season 4 starts Monday. Follow the link & help us out.
Link to page that explains the plan.
My one request – Can we pick just one hashtag?
Nice flyer, Baylink
Good idea, verkisto.
“Join the Nerd Herd and Stampede to Subway on Mondays†– awesome slogan!
The problem with that, Darth, is that *no one’s looking there*. Except us, the people who do not already need to be converted. Part of the advantage of using Twitter is that we will be seen by people who are only mildly interested in Chuck, if at all. Those people, if they’re searching for *anything*, will be searching for the title of the show.
Which, of course, means that the tag I chose for my flyer is similarly bad… 🙂
We don’t need to rev up the fanbase… we need to rev up the civilians. Our goal is to have 10 million people watching the replay of the finale… whether it’s with us, or whether NBC gets religion, and does the traditional “last three eps of last season” warmup, as so many shows seem to get these days…
But leveraging those people who *weren’t looking for us* seems really important to me, and if those people are searching twitter… they’ll be searching for “Chuck” and …
wow. Maybe that approach isn’t actually going to work. There’s a really large amount of noise on a search for just ‘chuck’.
I still think “#chuck” is a better bet than anything longer, though…
@Baylink: We aren’t looking to be ‘searched’, we’re looking to be in the Trending column that shows up on the Twitter homepage. If we’re all using the same tag, we should be in the top 10 within an hour of Tweeting. That will reach far more people than whoever might happen to be searching for #Chuck during that same time period.
Mmmhmm. Like Mel said, we are trying to trend a topic so that people check us out. See, otherwise we are just preaching to the converted. But a tag like #chuckmemondays could gain interest.
“Hmmmm. What is this?” I know I am more likely to click on trending topics that have dates to them than not. I am always curious why that day is special. 🙂
Logistically how will this work for Latin Americans? We’re not stimucast. We can’t stream and we can’t legally download. We have season 1 DVD but will not have season 2 for quite some time as season 2 is just starting to premiere here. I believe Europe is the same the situation as us regarding season 2 how are they approaching this? I want be able to participate in a way that can be used to show executives that Chuck Me Monday lead to increased DVD sells, download revenue and ad revenue from streaming, but am feeling left out.
You could watch it on Hulu… Season 2 is up there now.
so we’re going to watch it online or dvd?
i see that this will work for season one but what about us un-americans who have difficulty watching chuck online?
Well, we’ll see how that works.
If you guys will put a short URL tag up that forwards… well, wherever you want me to send people, I’ll adjust the flyer appropriately.
chucktv.net/mondays is probably best…
Incidentally: what percentage of twitter users are *using* the web interface, and can you see trends from client programs?
Why not embed a chat room?
Those of us in the u.s. should be watching on thewb or hulu (when possible) so thewb and hulu (possibly nbc) have stats of this. Plus it’s just another way of supporting thewb and nbc for renewing our beloved Chuck…
All set for Chuck Me Mondays.
Getting ready to Chuck it out with you all! follow me @jaydeemc35 on twitter! Going to follow everyone!
Well, I guess that worked out pretty well.
Oops. Sorry. 🙂
My jackleg estimate, while I wait for hashtags.org to catch up, was 1500-2000 tweets from 100-150 viewers; did anyone set up a log bot?
In the end it was about 2,500 but I did not count the 2 hours following the episode where we actually trended higher. I will be sure to do that next week. As for number of users, it was close to 200, but I did not count all the people who jumped on board due to the trending. I will be better prepared next week. 🙂
I am Stationed in Japan so of course WB.com and NBC.com are not an option. I can us Hulu however. Does anyone know if watching on HULU helps the “ratings?” I actually have the blu-ray so if using HULU does not help I will use the discs.
Hi, I am having problems with twitter, seems I did something wrong 🙁 not sure how to connect with others watching chuck, and make a difference on ratings. If anyone sees this can you please point me in the right direction?
I am watching Chuck vs the helicopter. My fav scene is when Chuck pulls the table cloth, and then Casey helps knock the candle on the suffle and says “flambe” hehe
Also, Casey saying I don’t joke about quiche (the ones with the nanos)
*Thought bubble!* people, have you seen the movie Pay it Forward? My idea is to alter that concept to get 3 friends to watch Chuck and pass it on then they pass it on… I like the green shirts on Chuck Me Mondays idea too! So watch Chuck – pass it on!
Oooooooh and for a slogan “Pay it Chuckward”? or something?
You might want to toss a link up, here, to http://chuckme.renewchuck.com, which will be the best option for many people…
