Friday Five: Reasons To Be Thankful for Chuck

Are you getting in the Thanksgiving spirit? Next Thursday is the day of gratitude in the U.S., but let’s get a jumpstart, shall we? Here are five reasons that I am thankful for Chuck:

  1. Zachary Levi and Adam Baldwin back on the small screen – The two of them are what got me excited about this show way back in April 2007 when reports about the pilot were coming out. I enjoyed Zac in Less Than Perfect and Adam Baldwin in Firefly, but I think that their roles on Chuck really let them shine.
  2. Yvonne Strahovski – Can you believe that we didn’t even know her name before this show? What a revelation she’s been as Sarah Walker! In my opinion, she’s taken what could have been a generic spy comedy and added depth and heart.
  3. A unique show that defies labels – The same thing that makes it so difficult to describe Chuck to potential viewers is what makes it so special. It’s action! It’s romance! It’s drama! It’s comedy! It’s Chuck!
  4. The people who make the show – I’ve had the opportunity to meet and/or interview so many people who work to make Monday nights so enjoyable. From the executive producers to the cast to the writers to the composer to the costume designer to the production assistants, these people are generous, kind, funny and freakishly good looking.
  5. The people who watch the show – What an amazing community Chucksters are. I’ve been lucky enough to meet many fans in person, interact online, and even video chat with some. It’s pretty much guaranteed that we won’t all like the same episode, and sometimes serious disagreements break out, but in the end, we have a terrific Chuck family of fans around the world.

Another week when I wish this was the Saturday Six so I could add “music” to the list. Fortunately next week’s guest columnist focuses on music, so we’re covered. What are you most thankful for when it comes to Chuck?

  1. reason 6:
    -chucktv.net to connect us all!

  2. All the great people from chucktv.net who bring me such great content in between episodes :).

  3. Thankful also for seeing Josh Grimes on my son’s show Imagination Movers this morning. It gave me an end of week Chuck fix that I was missing after the cliff hanger. Josh’s character was playing a pirate who didnt really know how to be a pirate. It was awesome and my kids didn’t understand why I was so much more interested in their show this morning.

  4. I’m thankful to the ONE show on television that can make you laugh out load, awwww, gasp in shock, cry, warm your heart and make you grin from eye to eye in the space of one fantatic hour.
I’m also thankful for CHUCK getting me through the week, and knowing that in just 7 days,
I’ll be sittig on the couch doing all of the above!

Damn, this show is AWESOME. Love it.

And as others have said, we’re thankful to you ChuckTV.net.

  5. I’m thankful for the big combo on the show. We have it all:
    -Comedy
    -Danger
    -Action
    -Romance
    -Drama
I mean CHUCK is one of the greatest TV shows that I’d ever seen, its so genius that everyone who sees this show becomes an instant fan.

    • Mel, I think most of us are thankful for you and your gang doing such a good job keeping us informed of all things Chuck. I also appreciate your tolerance of old guys that step over the line on occasion.

  6. The number one reasone I’m thankful for CHUCK is thats it always leaves me with a goofy smile on my face which is good things since Mondays can suck sometimes. CHUCK is my happy drug and helps me on long days.
The 2cd reason is that it keeps me begging fore more because of all the action, nerd stuff, drama, suspense, comedy, and romance, but most all, good acting.
The 3rd reason is that the actors are so freakin’ awesome and hot. All of them just show so much love and appreciation to the fans. Such a nice group of people. Best wishs to all of them. And in terms of hotness,My husband hates the fact that I go loco when ever I see Ryan or Zach shirtless or better yet, shirless and wet. YUM! 😉
My 4th, is the fact I can enjoy this with my family and friends. Thank god I have DVR because everyone in my family treats CHUCK Mondays as religion and we get a little to excited. Literally, my whole family screams when its 8pm Monday. No joke! My 4 year old son didn’t stop wearing his nerd heard outfit for 6 months.
My 5th reason is the writers. I mean seriously, they are the ones that thought of this show. Without them, CHUCK probably wouldn’t exist and my Mondays would feel empty. No to mention I would never have realized what great talent Zach, Adam, and Yvonne have.
My runner ups would be the fans and the music. Man I can really just keep going on how thankful I am for CHUCK.

  7. All the things you mentioned make me thankful for Chuck plus one more…a reason to look forward to Mondays! Thanks to everyone who works on the show for bringing us all something to be excited about each week.

    • in australia it makes me look forward to tuesdays for new eps via the internet, and if i’m able to watch thursdays which at this time season 3 is being shown. cos it almost always takes longer for shows to be shown in australia

  8. The only other time I felt as devoted to a TV show was Babylon 5.

  9. I would like to add that I’m also thankful for Chuck because it gives me a reason to look forward to mondays. Before Chuck I dreaded mondays, now I can’t wait for them.

  10. I’m thankful for
    1. Sarah Walker/ YS
    2. Chuck Bartowski/ZL
    3. C/S
    4. the story which you can only have if you have good writers
    5. Cool music

  11. My 5 reasons:
    C….comedy
    H….heartwarming episodes
    U….unbelieveable fans
C….cast of Chuck, they are the best on TV
    K….kickass action

I love this show and am so thankful that NBC sees how smart it is to keep this show going.

  12. I’m thankful for:
    1. A cast that seems to be as great off screen as they are on and who are appreciative of their fans.
    2. Zachary Levi who really lifts up the people around him rather than seeking all the attention himself.
    3. A great community of fans that Mel, Liz and Gray have facilitated on ChuckTV.net
    4. A show that develops the characters into people you would really like to know and spend time with.
    5. A storyline that despite the twists and turns usually ends up in a good place when all is said and done.

If you haven’t seen this check out Zach’s reasons he is thankful in this month’s Southwest Airlines Spirit magazine http://www.spiritmag.com/click_this/article/zachary_levi2/

  13. I agree with all of the above. I am also thankful for all the wonderful people that I have come into contact with since joining the Chuck fandom. Chuck fans are the best ever and I love being able to share opinions and discuss episodes with fans from all over the world. Chuck knows no bounderies!

  14. Agree with all the above…and a special thanks to Mel, Liz and Gray for bringing us all Chuck fans together and another special special thanks to the cast of Chuck who are the most interactive cast of any tv show around!!!

  15. 1. Wonderful cast ensemble

    2. The fans, especially those who have raised money for charity

    3. Laughter, gasps, danger, fun

    4. The inimitable Adam Baldwin

    5. Great cosplay opportunities 🙂

  16. I’m thankful that Bryce Larkin is dead, and not currently in Chuck’s bedroom, making out with his new girlfriend. I’m also thankful, what with all the turkeys currently gobbling up airtime, that “Chuck” is not one of them.

  17. I’m just so happy that this show continues to air even though it doesn’t fit any stereotypes. Long live Chuck!!

  18. I’m thankful to the creators of the show because they made me deal with my english again, after a long long time, and discover once again the beauty of this language. I’m thankful to Zac Levi who inspired me to go back to my old, but never forgotten love of mine, which is theatre and acting (I’m not sure if he really knows what he can do on that department). I joined the amateur’s theatre group in my town, and I feel excited about that. Thank you Zac.

  19. I love chuck, mainly because I’ve never been this hooked to a show in years, the characters are all brilliant and I love the actors who bring those characters to life every single episode. Honestly I don’t really get why the ratings are bad in the US for this show :S I mean c’mon ! There ain’t no better show than this (Imho ;P). Here in the Netherlands the very first episode of chuck just aired so I’m following the show on dutch TV all over again, although I have allready seen all the episodes till now. I hope there will be a 5th season :D, but I’m satisfied if Chuck and Sarah are going to get married in the season 4 season finally :P. (Sorry for my bad English ^^).

  20. I am thankful for CHUCK AND SARAH and the rest of the crew, for making this show as AWESOME as possible.
If I mention all the things that I am thankful for, surely words wouldn’t be enough to express how much.

But I am really grateful because this show really changed my life!
    I <3 CHUCK FOREVER!

  21. 1. Yvonne Strahovski
    2. Yvonne Strahovski
    3. Yvonne Strahovski
    4. Yvonne Strahovski
    5. Yvonne Strahovski

  22. “Chuck” was there for me in a very difficult time, when a friend of mine died during Christmas break. 3 days after the funeral, Sci-Fi (I can’t bear to call it SyFy. It’s stupid.) had their Chuck marathon. For the first time of 2010, I actually smiled. I’m thankful for how the show can pick me up in a sad time, with the humor, the characters, and the familiarity of the show I’ve loved since the pilot. I’m also thankful for Yvonne Strahovski, the TV Babe to end all TV Babes. All hail the Giant She-Male!! All in all, guys, If you’re reading this, thank you. I owe you everything.
