Rating News for Chuck vs. the Seduction Impossible

The ratings for this week’s episode of Chuck, Chuck vs. the Seduction Impossible, stayed down to 1.7 for 18-49 demo, however, the news didn’t fare well for anything else either. Harry’s Law dropped to 1.7 and The Cape is dying a slow death, dropping to 1.3.

A lot was going on last night, with new shows popping up, but Chuck withstood very well, I think.

  1. There didn’t seem to be much of any promotion on NBC’s part (what else is new)…I wonder when the network’s going to bump up the promotion a bit

  2. Chuck needs to got back to what the show was good for in season 1 and 2 when they had to hide what Chuck was doing, take way his fighting, get the old hair and MORE BUY MORE!!!!!!!!! All this fake international stuff is ruining the show!

    • I disagree with you this is a fan site not a gripe site

    • In my opinion, the tone of last night’s episode would have fit perfectly in season 2. Even if Chuck’s hair was shorter.

      • Totally agree with you Mel. Everyone is allowed to try different hairstyles too.
Was such a delightful episode. Hilarious that Roan ended up working at the Buy More….hahaha
Chuck being frozen in place by Sarah seducing him with her belly dancer outfit.
Morgan’s and Casey’s relationship developing more and more…love it!
Mama B and her little granddaughter…so precious.
Opening scene was so funny with everyone staring down at little Clara.
Cracked me up when Casey shot Roan in the back with a tranq and Roan moans out a “Really?” before keeling over.
        I love this show!

    • A lot of talk has gone on lately as to whether the show suffers or benefits from the demands of the seasonal story-arc. The “Seduction Impossible” reminded me of the “Honeymooners” insofar as it was the first episode after the original 13-ep arc, and because they were liberated from demands of those arcs, they had the feel of free-wheeling stand-alone episodes, the like of which we saw regularly in seasons 1 and 2. Not that “Seduction Impossible” doesn’t carry implications for future stories in the back 11, it’s just that it felt less enslaved by it. Very enjoyable.

    • They should have promoted Sarah’s belly dancing. That would have upped the ratings amongst male viewers!

  3. I do agree that Season 2 was Chuck’s best season. Then came Season 3, which had tremendous potential, but turned out to be a mess mostly because NBC keeps renewing the show for only 13 episodes, then adds on more part way through the season. Chuck definitely lost viewers during Season 3. If they would just renew the show for 22 or so episodes, then the writers can fully develop a story over a season and not worry about being canceled halfway through. However, this season has been extremely good. The writers seem to have returned more or less to the formula from Season 1 and 2. Now we just need to get those lost viewers back on board. Oh, and more Chuck Intersect 2.0 action please.

    • i just a say that season is the best like the one and the second the 3rd suck compared the other just keep like this one i ist gonnabe good

  4. Another ratings ” Black Tuesday “. If I wasn’t already bald this
would make my hair fall out. Should we start worrying Mel ?

    • If you start worrying now, you’ll give yourself an ulcer. These numbers aren’t great, but they aren’t the end of the world. Both of the new shows NBC is trying out on Mondays took a nosedive against full competition from the other networks, while Chuck remained steady from last week. It would have been wonderful to see a 2.0 in the demo this week, but when compared to the rest of Monday night on NBC, Chuck looks pretty good.

  5. How much of the ratings are based on online viewing? I work Monday nights & can’t record episodes so I count on viewing online next morning. Last week I couldn’t view on NBC’s site Tues AM, watched on Hulu. This AM, Hulu didn’t have the new episode so I watched on NBC.

I agree, this season is wonderful, season 3 was terrible up to The Other Guy then it improved. Loved season 1 & 2 and can’t wait for the rest of this season.

I’d just as soon the cops keep Jeffster, could do without them and most of the Buy More but that’s just me.

    • None of the ratings reported in the fast overnights include online viewings, but as we’ve noted before, NBC does take Hulu and NBC.com online viewings into account (greater weight is given to NBC.com views).

  6. Last night’s episode was fantastic! Stand alone episodes seem to be their strong suit. They should stick with more of those, instead of the multi-episode arcs. Don’t get me wrong I think Timothy Dalton is a great actor, I’ve just had enough of Volkov. Time get back to the type of episodes that made Chuck great!

  7. I’m wondering if the lack of Amazon.com or I-tunes has a bearing–in addition to the lack of promotion has an effect. I understand if they’re worried about piracy. Isn’t Chuck one of the most pirated shows on tv? As mentioned prior, the magic number for syndication is 100. With the end of the season total being 78, a full season 5 of 22 episodes would made that happen. Money is a major factor in everything.

  8. Mel,

I’m worried with 2 weeks in a row with 1.7. : ( We need to start early on the campaign to make sure we are running full steam before we get to a point of trying to play catch up with getting higher ratings (looking from an overall ratings average). Let’s mobilize and hit the streets running! : )

  9. Well actually I was fearing a 1.5 number but it could be a victim of 2 weeks of unusual circumstances. 2 weeks ago weather and this week coming of Superbowl Sunday on Fox. House was up 16% This super bowl set an all time viewing record. I have to go look but it seems Chuck episodes take a hit coming off past super bowls when air on other networks

I still question how much promotion show getting. Shows dropped 0.4 since 4.11 aired. Some viewers may feel latest arc was flat and fact C/S are engaged that there is not much more for them to see I don’t have facts just speculating Of course Harry’s Law dropped 0.5 from last week to tie Chuck stay positive and see how the trend continues

  10. So can anyone answer this? Is it the number of viewers or the 18-49 that matter more? Harry’s law rang in at 9.14 Million Viewers but 1.7 against castle which was a mere 9.25 million but at 2.5? The reason that I ask is chuck always hangs between 5.5 Million to 6.1 Million viewers…

In other words 5.5 to 6.1 fanatics who sit back and watch EVERY single week…That has to count for something right?

  11. My reasoning for the less-than-great ratings is the Superbowl. 111 million viewers, and House got more promos during that than Chuck has had on NBC all season combined. I am disappointed that the ratings stayed so low after the epic “Chuck vs. The Push Mix.” I was expecting a ratings increase. Still, though, “Chuck” keeps its title as the most reliable 1 hour scripted NBC show, at least staying steady. They should switch Harry’s Law and The Cape. I don’t watch The Cape and I have to DVR Harry’s Law but my Mondays on NBC could be 2 hours instead of 1 if Harry’s Law came after Chuck.

Just everyone do your best to watch live every week!
