Well, NBC certainly knows how to get us in a tizzy! At the end of tonight’s episode of Chuck, we got the preview for next week as usual, and then… Oh, and THEN. In two weeks, December 23, mark your calendars: Daniel Shaw returns.

I couldn’t contain it, I think I tweeted you Mel — I was completely shocked. For two reasons: I just couldn’t believe that they would actually want to advertise Chuck to do a “2 weeks from now” promo AND SHAW WHAT?????
I’m all for the twists. I just hope it’s not the ending of the episode and they just ruined it.
You know what, now that I have taken the time to rewatch season 3 a time or two since it originally aired, I have grown to really enjoy Daniel Shaw. Sure, “Chuck Versus the Mask” sucked, but if it weren’t for that episode, he wouldn’t have such a bad rep among CHUCK fans. I just wish NBC hadn’t spoiled that for me! That’s more than a minor spoiler!!
And the biggest beef with Mask is that we dangled for 3 weeks. That’s on NBC, not on the writers.
I don’t think it was the mask. I think it was the entire arc. Anyway, really disappointed to see Shaw back… even if it’s to see him die a horrid death, I’ve had enough episodes of Chuck feel like a let down by Brandon Routh. He wasn’t likeable as a good guy, and came across as pathetically unevil as a bad guy (just vengeful), none of his arc ever came across to me as remotely believable.
Oh well, guess we just have to put up with.it. Sorry to see a Christmas episode I’ve been really looking forward to be so ruined.
And I’m not one of those downers that criticises the show for the Morgan intersect or anything like that, but I just think it’s sad they didn’t learn from the reaction to Shaw the first time around.
Perhaps we should wait until the episode airs to decide whether it was a bad decision? I’m looking forward to Shaw’s return and, I speculate, ultimate comeuppance at the hands of Chuck and Sarah.

They know the fanbase’s hot button to Shaw. No way they would bring him back unless it was to reinforce Chck and Sarah.

I’m surprised that it was Shaw and Chuck in Ring II. His beef was always with Sarah. Maybe she gets her shot at him.

I might be one of the few who enjoyed Shaw “more” when he went bad towards the end of season 3. Locking him away in the finale, he HAD to come back. In fact I was hoping he would be part of this conspiracy that Team Chuck is uncovering.
Now…. if Bryce were the REAL ring leader…. well a happy fan-boy I would be to bring this whole story full circle. Someone has to be pulling the strings that has been close to these people at one point or another….
However… I would guess that someone totally unexpected is driving the conspiracy…
If they bring Shaw back, they have to bring Bryce back.

Anybody who thinks that Shaw is even remotely going to be a PLI for Sarah at this point, well, I don’t know what to tell you.

Call me crazy, but I wonder whether Shaw is going to try and kill them…or help them? After all, there is a grand CIA conspiracy that Carmichael Industries is fighting. Shaw’s wife was killed by a CIA conspiracy. Stands to reason that it might be the same conspiracy at work. Maybe, just maybe, Shaw is going to temporarily put aside his desire to kill them to help them take the CIA conspiracy down.
Or he’s simply been hired to kill them because of his personal vendetta. Whatever. Looking forward to it in either event.
Yes! That’s exactly why I’ve always found the idea of Shaw returning to be fascinating! they have so much reason to hate each other… but now so much reason to work together. That’s an awesome conundrum!
Is Shaw still an Intersect?
Ooh, yeah he is… or was, I hope they bring the intersect back, it just isn’t chuck without it. I can’t wait to see shaw get the crap beat out of him…again 🙂
Remember the CIA de-intersected Volkov and Chuck towards last season. It was CIA property after all. I would expect they removed it from Shaw with those fun “Dark Shades of Discharge” . Would be my guess. We don’t know for sure yet.
For me the intersect specific storylines however tend to go in every direction from established cannon that the writers develop about it. We also don’t get viable explanations of how a pair of glasses holds the same processing power of a machine that takes up an entire room or complex. I digress.
We could just say Shaw’s Ring intersect was impervious to the CIA attempts to remove it. So Chuck will somehow have to level the playing field.

According to Wikipedia, the synopsis for Santa Suit is partially “Chuck and Sarah discover the identity of the person tying to take down Carmichael Industries.”
So I’m going to call it right now. Shaw is trying to take down Carmichael Industries.

I still have a hard time believing Shaw is the mastermind. It was stated that this goes back more than four years (I believe much longer) and Shaw’s too young a character. Also, if you recall, Decker said Shaw was ‘part’ of the plan (apparently he still is). I think Shaw is just a tool (no pun intended) for the ‘superior’ although he might reveal who the ‘superior’ is.

it starts with shaw whos gonna explain to chuck and sarah that he has lost hes mind because of the intersect just like agent x .. that he turned evil .. and because of that he desides to kill sarah cause she killed hes wife .. now he doesnt have the intersect anymore and want to finish the cia bad guys( because decker is death but there al still evil guys at the cia ) then shaw makes a trap for chuck and sarah and they will get arested .. but .. he totally forgot about casy, morgan and uhhh idk here name anymore omfg -.- anyway they will save there asses and shaw will get killed .. then chuck download the intersect 3.0( shaw created this .. how ? he have the guy from nacho sampler ! .. ( chuck whos getting the intersect is kinda what im hoping for but it wont happen .. but it would be a nice ending of episode 6 😀 )
I think that’s incorrect. Shaw was one of the people who was being controlled by the conspiracy. he was among the list that decker mentioned at the end of season 4. My guess its a totally new character, probably that guy that was just cast for the last 4 episodes this season. My guess? Shaw will be pissed that he has been controlled and will help carmichael industires to take down that guy.

Of all the great guest stars they have had on this show that they could bring back, why would they bring back Mr. Plywood?
That being said, regardless of Shaw I’m still looking forward to this episode.

Don’t forget that Deckker told Chuck that he (Chuck) had been Minuliplated from the begining! I think we will have a bit of Star Wars – Return of the Jedi – Chuck & Sarah will make Shaw see that they have been Minulipated as much as they have. Maybe Shaw cut a deal with Deckker to get the Intersect removed hence the development of suppression device through expermentation on Shaw! Chuck helps Shaw realise that he is still being used by Dekker & Co! Shaw turns away from the “Darkside” & will help Chuck & Sarah bring Deckker & Co down. Hence putting a Major spanner in Deckker’s plan! Thats why we have the Big Mastermind reveal!

My mouth was LITERALLY hanging open from the time Verbanski blew up Decker to the end of the promo. And then when I saw Shaw my mouth dropped open even bigger. I can’t believe how well they kept this under wraps!

We’d have to assume that Shaw still wants to kill Sarah. Is she in danger? Is Shaw still an intersect? Wouldn’t that make them fairly defenseless against him?

I wouldn’t think Shaw is still an intersect, they would have removed it in prison. Why is he even out in the first place. Decker is defineately not behind it as we now know.

I hate Shaw! I absolutely hate him! I hope he tries to kill Sarah again, but this time gets killed by Chuck. Permanently.

Come on, he is the BEST villain, next to Volkoff anyway, CHUCK has ever had. First he used Sarah like a toy, and tried to kill he tried to kill her. He tried to kill the entire Team Bartowski and killed Chuck’s dad. If he was not back in the last season it would have been a crime! Now Chuck can see that Sarah has gotten over him, and they can put him away!

I think that new spoiler from entertainment weekly today makes alot of sense given this information. Certainly explains the two members of the team in extreme peril. Looking forward to seeing it play out.
I wonder how Chuck will react knowning the man that killed his dad is out of jail and in Castle with Sarah?
One last thought: Ok, we now know Shaw is coming back to give Sarah a headache, IS Jill Roberts going to make an appearance before the end of 5th season to complicate Chuck’s life?
That was an awesome episode!! Why did they have to show us Shaw was back? I would have liked to be surprised but there must be a reason. I thought of him when Chuck said this was personal!! Shaw must somehow be in the plot because how else could he get out of federal prison –probably something like Volkoff was in. No, someone else is behind this It really has to go back to even the first episode.Chris Fedak is awesome!!! I hope he makes a Chuck movie!!!! I liked Brandon Routh in s3 even though we were supposed to come to hate him!! Good villain.

Same here. I was quite fond of Shaw turning into a villain and frequently rewatch the last few episodes of S3.
You know other than the Shaw as a PLI for Sarah in season 3 plot (which I actually didnt even think was that bad) I didn’t mind shaw, and really liked him as a villain. Besides volkoff he is probably the best, and routh plays creepy really well. Wen I saw the 2 weeks promo I quickly thought to myself “there is supposed to b a surprise guest star, how awesome would it be if it was Shaw” and like 2 seconds later, there he was. I actually jumped up and fist pumped. Always felt there was some more story to tell regarding shaw. And if they keep him his creepy villainous self, I can only c nothing but good tv. Plus it adds some continuity between seasons, which is nice for the long time fans. Can’t wait for the episode, looks awesome.
Hi, I started watching Chuck when it first came out and stopped for some reason, I didnt even realise it was still on. I just bought the box sets anyway as I saw an old episode on TV and thought hey this is really good. So anyway long story short I watched 80 episodes in like a week to catch up (lol…owww my head!!!) So what i would like to see for a finale is that chuck is being pushed to the limit to get his intersect to work to its full potential and in fact all the conspiracies are geared towards getting him to access a part of his brain hes never had to before – idk, something about his dad telling him he’s special – like the intersect was always designed for chuck. as for Shaw – i preferred him as a bad guy and i think its good he’s coming back – his personality just highlights chucks charm if you ask me. The only thing that makes me sad about series 5 of chuck is his haircut – geeks are hot dammit

There’s no contest with Volkoff and Shaw for me. Shaw killed Orion in cold blood and seduced our heroine. He is THE VILLAIN for Chuck. Glad he’s back. He never got what he truly deserves from Chuck and especially Sarah.

I completely agree. Plus Shaw had/has? an intersect. I loved his physical confrontations with Chuck back in S3.
Come on guys, remember this season is for the fans. I think bringing Shaw back is as Chris and Co have said before this season started that this season is all about resolving things. So Shaw is part of that puzzle.
As for PLI and all that, I can’t imagine they would do that except to stir up the fans which I think it is working for some of you. I totally agree with Stargazer… Sarah loves Chuck and it would go against all that the fans believe in, if the writers were to do anything to Charah!!

If Shaw was revealed in the promo, do you really think there isn’t a much bigger twist coming? Its freaking Shaw?! Why give that up in a promo two weeks from the actual episode if there isn’t something monumentally huge waiting to blow our minds? The whole season so far has been about “who is behind the conspiracy” and they give it up in a promo? Doubtful.
How would this be for a twist…Stephen Bartowski is behind the conspiracy.
We all agree (from what I see) that he isn’t dead, so how much bigger a twist can you get than that? Evidence seems to add up…
This actually makes a lot of sense. If you remember back into the S4 finale, Decker was laughing when Chuck mentioned his father being dead. It’s a long shot, but what if Decker, in his grand master plan, revived Orion and Intersected him in a similar way to how Hartley and Morgan were Intersected. Orion could be the villain.
Anything’s possible, but if it played out like that, I swear, that would be the biggest twist I have ever seen on ANY show. Ever.

When I saw Shaw in the promo, I couldn’t help but think of the scene in Star Trek II when Khan takes over the Enterprise and abandons Kirk with the Genesis project as Kirk yells, “KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNN!!!”
“SHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!”
…And in the end our heroes will win the day too.

I haven’t seen the boards this busy in a long time. It’s nice to see! Of course I’d rather walk on nails than have to re-live Shaw, but I believe I will enjoy his visit this time.

I was hoping in an episode that Casey and Alex would fight together (like Sara and Bryce did). Also would love to see Hartley’s mom again…..she was SO cute! Oh well. Maybe a movie? =)

Well…I didn’t expect THAT one!
Sarah is beginning to realize that being Chuck’s wife may result as having to leave the spy game behind for good at some point (and sooner rather than later); a perspective that she clearly doesn’t relish (just remember the look of dread on her face in 4.04 when Chuck was telling her that he wasn’t sure if he wanted to be a spy. And in 4.05, saying that she didn’t know what she would do as a civilian).
Maybe the arrival of Shaw will be like the last temptation; the last time she can choose to leave everything behind and be a spy with a guy as partner, or to completely go with becoming a normal wife to Chuck. Heck, I wouldn’t even be surprised to see Sarah kiss Shaw back, like she did with Cole Barker (even if her heart was already to Chuck, even at the time).
TPTB like to bring some angst on every seventh episode of a season, isn’t it? At least, it’s pretty sure that she will choose Chuck and the normal life (after all, that photo of the gang in the last week of filming shows Chuck and Sarah with their wedding rings)…
I guess we’ll see!
I really doubt that Sarah would have a flirtation with Shaw. The guy tried to kill her twice, and Chuck! Not to mention he killed her father in law in cold blood (no Richard the Third references) and tried to destroy everyone she cares about. I can’t see Sarah wiping that all under the rug. I can’t see tptb going that Shakespearean.
i disagree personally. if you remember in season 2, chuck vs the ring… at the wedding Bryce shows up and Sarah makes the decision to not go of into the crazy spy world and stay with Chuck. I believe she would make the same decision now.

I think Shaw is one of Chucks greatest Villains, for one I’m happy to see him back. I expect there to be some goood episodes coming up.
As for the Intersect, if Decker has anything to do with it, he may still have it after all he did seem to be highly involved with the intersect season 4 finale and season 5.
Everyone is complaining about how they hate Shaw and how he ruins the show. Personally, I think that is just a testament to how effective a villain he portrays on the show.

I hated Shaw-wish a boom had fallen on him during filming-thought Chuck showed weakness by not killing him after Shaw killed his Dad.–They should call him monotone Mike–F&S showed more guts (spelled arrogance) by bringing him back when there were so many good villains to choose from–F&S should have learned–hope it is for only one episode and someone guts him with a knife. –may have to skip this one-have to think on it.
Been a fan of chuck’s since it’s very beggining and always thought that shaw was the best villian, kind of like chuck bad in a dark and negative way. Also i was hoping he’d return in season 4, as i like the idea of a cooperation between chuck and him, like to rivals working together seem like a good plot. WHEN I SAW THE PROMO I WAS COMEPLETELY BLOWN AWAY!!! I was like a whole hour trying to figure things out, I just loved the idea of him returning to the show to steer things up, always though he was one of the best chuck characters. So i’m really pumped to see what’s gonna happen! Also a return of Bryce would be also interesting, about Jill not so sure, always thought that here exit was like with no strings, not like the exits of both shaw and bryce (the death of bryce was actually a rush decision in my oppinon, and we didn’t see what happend to him when his body was taken away from ring soldiers). SO to conclude I’m super glad that Shaw returns it will be a great finale season, which CHUCK clearly deserves ! (sorry for the long post, i got caught in the moment)
reading through some of these comments yes shaw may be returning but the only thing is were only half way through the season so chances are shaw is just a decoy. i think bryce would be interesting as he did kind of suddenly die but jill shouldnt i never liked her anyway. when i first saw the promo which was about 15 minutes ago i was like ‘BUT HE’S DEAD’ so i went back to season 3 finale and realise he was only knocked out by sarah. even so i dont think he’s the master mind behind the conspiracy. perhaps volkoff i mean it wouldnt surprise me. i also agree with what people are saying about stephen he’s the freaking genius behind the intersect, i doubt very much the american government in chucks world would not let him die, looking at decker for example… but all in all still waiting upon the series finale :\'( will miss chuck as have been a fan since the beginning, i cant even remember how i got into it actually.
Spoilers for the Christmas episode say 2 members of the team are in mortal danger: I assume that to be Chuck and Sarah. And with all the kissing, I’m guessing there is a poison or bio-weapon that is transferred by kissing, used on both Chuck and Sarah.
So there is a possibility Sarah kisses Shaw because she’s been poisoned and uses it to poison Shaw, or Shaw forcefully kisses her.
Too much bad blood between Shaw and Sarah for them to kiss without an ulterior motive.
I could see Chuck and Shaw kiss and make up, because that would be Chuck-like. 😉
Or Sarah kisses Shaw to seduce and distract him, that pulls a knife and stabs him in the back.
FOUND OUT THE TITLES FOR 5.12 AND 5.10! 5.12 is “Chuck vs. the Last mission” and 5.10 is “chuck vs. the family drama” enjoy.
I saw it happening but didn’t think they were going to actually do it. I’m kinda excited about the twist though. Everything can’t be happy all the time. Plus, I find the shaw hate amusing
