Chuck Is 2011’s Most Buzzed-About TV Show

Nielsen released some stats for the year that was 2011 today, and there’s good news for Chuck fans! According to NM Incite, a Nielsen/McKinsey company, Chuck garnered the most online buzz in 2011 with a whopping 54% of mentions among the top 10 most buzzed about TV shows this year. Desperate Housewives was a distant second with 16%.

If I had to pinpoint one thing that set Chuck apart from other shows this year, it would be the #NotANielsenFamily campaign spearheaded by We Give A Chuck last spring. That campaign generated a ton of Tweets, blog posts, and Facebook mentions in addition to our regularly scheduled online discussion. Nice work, Chucksters!

  1. Interesting info Mel, I personally think the Nielson system needs to be replaced. I am just glad that NBC stuck with Chuck (no pun intended). How many other great shows will be caned or have been canned by this faulty rating system?

  2. But this is what’s so frustrating. Why couldn’t NBC ever turn all that hype into ratings?

Compare Chuck to the mega hit TBBT. Okay, I understand that direct comparisons are apples and oranges. But what show is better? I like TBBT, I guess. But it’s mindless fluff, at best.

NBC has buried Chuck in a no win time slot, given it no promotion, and messed with the episode order, insuring a disjointed storyline.

Now they’re burning off what promises to be a very good episode on the Friday before Christmas. It’ll be lucky to get a .6 demo.

    Okay, my rant is over.

    • I agree with Bill, but you have to give NBC some credit, they did keep CHUCK around for 5 seasons. I just wish an Internet company could come up with a more accurate system than the antiquated Nielsons and put that sorry excuse for a Rating Gide into its much deserved grave.

  3. as it should be

  4. The whole system needs an overhaul. It’s not 1960 anymore!

  5. I think Devon Woodcumb said it best: “Awesome!” 🙂
