Friday Five: Disguises Casey Wore

The undercover disguises on Chuck provided lots of visual comedy, especially when Casey was involved. Stoic and serious most of the time, it seems like the show took great delight in putting him in silly disguises. Herewith, five of my all-time favorite Casey disguises.

1. Casey is a Nerd (“Chuck vs. the Dream Job”)

After making fun of Chuck, Morgan, and the other nerds for nearly two seasons, turnabout is fair play when Casey must go undercover at the Roark Computer Expo. Plaid shirt – check. Glasses with cord – check. Lanyard – check. Enthusiasm for nerdy stuff – double-check.

2. Casey is a Plumber (“Chuck vs. the Predator”)

 

This is one of my favorite openings of the entire series. We see Chuck, Sarah, and Casey returning from a job wearing coveralls, covered in dirt and, well, I don’t want to know what else. We never know what the mission was, just that they were successful. And Casey has a bag of unknown items that they’ve retrieved. The look on his face!

3. Casey is a Maitre d’ (“Chuck vs. the Ex”)

The soul patch, you guys. CASEY IS WEARING A SOUL PATCH.

4. Casey is on a Stakeout (“Chuck vs. the American Hero”)

This isn’t a Super Sekrit Disguise in the way that others on this list are, but the context makes it special. After Chuck decides he’s not going to be a spy anymore, Casey, Morgan, and Awesome team up to surveil Sarah and Shaw, dragging Chuck with them. It’s one of the few times Awesome is involved in spy business, and it provides some great moments of both humor and bonding.

5. Casey is a Buy More Employee (all the episodes ever)

Casey’s greatest disguise has to be the green shirt, khakis, and name badge he wore for the majority of the series a Buy More employee. This long-term undercover mission pushed him outside his comfort zone on many occasions (Watch him try to care which TV the customer should buy.) and gave us great moments like Casey tackling the shoplifter at the beginning of the series’ second episode.
