I’ll bet you thought it would be months before we had any spoilers for Chuck‘s third season, didn’t you? Well Josh Schwartz took pity on us and provided a little tease in Ausiello’s latest column:
Will Chuck and Sarah start the season off as a full-fledged couple?
SCHWARTZ: Chuck having the Intersect in his head will severely complicate their ability to be a couple. Â [And] look for a potential new love interest on the show.Really? For who?
SCHWARTZ: Someone who could triangulate between a couple of characters.Male or female?
SCHWARTZ: Gosh, isn’t it more fun to tease?
My take? It sounds like someone comes between two friends, probably two of the guys. Unless Sarah and Anna are intrigued by the same person.
What if “Dad” gets a new gal and Chuck and Ellie can’t decide if they like the new potential Step-Mom.
Josh doesn’t really say anything more about CHUCK/SARAH other than “having the Intersect in his head is going to complicate things.†Hello?? That’s NOT news! Can anyone say, “this is a recording!†(meaning “the same” kind of stuff from Seasons 1&2 all over again). DEAR GOD, HOPEFULLY NOT!!
As far as the new love interest that will “triangulate†a relatioship, all I can say is that if it involves CHUCK and SARAH, I’m going to CRAP!! NOT AGAIN!! Hopefully it will be a love interest for either Jeff or Lester, thus “triangulating†their “relationship!†ANYTHING but a CHUCK/SARAH/3RD PERSON triangulation – PLEASE!! THAT kind of triangulation will cause me to want to do some “strangulation” of Josh and Chris [just kidding – don’t send the CIA or the NSA after me – unless the CIA agent is Sarah Walker 🙂 ].
Amen brother Rick. You are on alot of the posts around the chuck world. this back and forth crap has to stop. Look at the ratings when they tried it. They dropped. If you tease a dog enough he will bit. Dont make us bit chris/josh. Sarah and chuck needs to move forth and multiply. How about a Casey and Lester/Jeff love triangle. That is comedy. GO REDWINGS

It seems this is all they know how to toy with us! Have a heart so to speak, give us the Chuck and Sarah relationship we want. Haven’t we come though for you! Play around with the other character’s love interests.

He didn’t say specifically that it involves Chuck and Sarah. He said the intersect will complicate things, but we knew that already. I think he’s toying with us and wants us to think that it involves Charah.
I just don’t see how they can’t have Chuck and Sarah be a real couple after all that’s happened.
I agree with the No more messing with Chuck and Sarah! Lets see them together… at long last.
My suspicion is a girl is going to come between Jeffster. Like Gambs said….the Yoko Ono of Jeffster.
Obviously the new love interest isn’t for Chuck & Sarah. They’ve come a long way and by now are commited to one another so having someone come between them isn’t just recycling used ideas, it’s not natural at this point. I don’t think Chuck & Sarah will hook up again at least until later in the season (and Schwartz says as much) but it won’t be because of a love triangle.

My guess is that this triangle will be between anna and morgan or the jeffster. I think if it is between the jeffster it would be really funny because we’ve never seen them with a girl.
I don’t think it will be between sarah and chuck cause their relationship just got complicated again. With the new intersect means new mission and I’m pretty sure sarah and chuck know who they feel about each other… they just haven’t said those three little words… I mean the kiss at the hotel has got to mean something right?

Here are my thoughts: obviously the new intersect is going to complicate things, but Chuck made the choice to become a CIA agent. There is no going back for him. So technically he’s no longer an “Asset” and they should now be considered a full fledged team, even though they already were. The reason Sarah always gave for them not being able to be together was because he was an asset, but now he’s one of them. She was with Bryce since they were both agents, so what’s going to be her excuse now for rejecting Chuck now?? Bryce and Sarah looked out for each other when they were together, and now the same thing is going to happen with Chuck. There should be no reason why they can’t get together now. Like Chuck said, because they care about each other it helps them look out for one another even more.
I agree with fstorm. In the final episode Sarah chose to stay with Chuck and Chuck told his father that he loved Sarah. There is no way they can go back to the way it was in seasons 1 and 2. Even the actors want to see the relationship develope as Yvonne said in her podcast interview. Hopefully this is just a ploy by Josh to keep us all amped up for season 3.

I can see this getting complicated—I mean, Chuck has these new “powers”, and he is bound to get a little arrogant about it. Then, Sarah has to decide if she likes the “new Chuck”. As far as the “new Chuck” goes, I really hope that Orion shows up a few times to keep Chuck grounded. Of course, this may be too much to hope for with the show’s budget.
Chuck may have decided to be “that guy”, but he has a lot of learning to do to be a real spy, and I am sure there will be scenes where Sarah will just be rolling her eyes and saying, “this guy is never going to be a real spy”. Then Chuck will get defensive, and so on, and so forth.
Another thing is that now we have a team of three: Chuck, Sarah, and Casey. And this will be a real team, not a team of two guarding “the asset”. I wonder when Casey will start “feeling like Team Chuck’s little fat kid!” (again)
As far as the new relationship goes, how about someone coming to break up Awesome and Ellie’s marriage? This could cause a lot of stress for Chuck, who feels a tremendous amount of loyalty to his sister, but has also invested trust in Awesome by spilling the beans.
If it is between chuck and sarah obviously all the character development between them will have been a waste of time if they just go running when the next avaliable person appears…. Hopefully its someone else and we can stop the love triangles between chuck and sarah because it will destroy the ratings and all the hard work will be for nothing =(
I agree with Mike. Don’t drag it out like Moonlighting and don’t do it like Friends (bring them together and break them up). There are plenty of story lines both comedic and dramatic that can be done with Chuck and Sarah as a real couple. After watching Seasons 1 and 2 again (and again), I have faith in the writing staff that the relationship will be handled the way we are looking for.
Peeps, I don’t think we need to worry about the quality of the TV show. It will be fun and entertaining and have plenty o’ romance I am sure.
Seriously, they are not going to destroy the show or Charah.
Josh also has a vision of several seasons at one time in his head so he may not be at the same pace as the average fan. He needs to balance the Charah stuff to a degree to keep it hot.
I just can’t see worrying about the plot for ten months when they just delivered some of the finest entertainment in television history.
Does anyone else on here wonder if anyone from the cast or crew comes here and laughs about all the things that we are writing?! Seriously if I were them I would be gettinga kick out of this. They are playing with our minds….at least they have the power for the next 10 months. Ughhhhhhhh
lol, that’s true, i hope they don’t kill CHARAH, it’s not fear that this new season start in zero about this couple coz we have wait a lot for a change in their relation so please, give us more real CHARAH romance… i go with jeffster i really think they r going to fight for their first lady that appears at buymore i can’t wait to watch the new season!!!! sorry but my english!!!
I hope we will see Sarah be able to say how she feels about Chuck. Every time she tries she gets interrupted. After 2 seasons of flirting (which was good imo), I think they need to move the relationship forward too.
Until March 2010, I am also hoping for web-episodes or maybe a one time episode (flashback style would be great).March 2010 is still a long wait. If they put stuff on the net, please allow international viewers to see it (Canada here).
Personally, I want to see Chuck and Sarah do more as a couple “undercover or not” like Sarah and Bryce did. Just think how fun could those adventures could be.
oh and btw I think the new love interest is going to involve Casey, that should be funny 🙂

god i hope everybody is right but remember the season finale. Sarah got interupted by chuck’s dad “i dont want to save the world, i want ?” and remember Bryce “she wasn’t going to come she was?” I have a bad feeling that they are going to try to screw with us again regarding Sarah and Chuck. let’s hope not. How about a secret relationship behind Beckman and Casey’s back where they pretend to be mean to each other and when their backs are turned hello broom closet. That would be classic humor. Almost getting caught.

The Chuck/Sarah relationship has to move forward now. It cannot stay in
neutral or go backwards. If Josh Schwartz tries to move it backwards just
because Chuck has regained an upgraded version of the intersect, it is going
to anger a lot of viewers, the same people who participated so heavily in
the campaign to save the show. I hope they don’t make the same mistake that
was made in the series “Moonlighting” where the viewers were teased so much
they stopped watching the show. That would be a terrible way to repay the
viewers who did so much to save “Chuck”, especially now that they have to
wait 10 months for the 3rd season to begin.
On top of that because of the long wait for the 3rd season to begin , the
producers cannot afford to alienate the viewers, especially if the they want
a full 22 episode 3rd season order rather than just the initial 13 episode
order. NBC will be watching the ratings and web hits on their site to view
episodes very carefully and if the series nosedives due to viewer anger or
lack of interest or disapppointment the series will be promptly cancelled
and there will be no saving it this time around, much less the possibility
of a 4th season. In short, the producers MUST make the wait worthwhile and
capture fan interest immediately. If they play around with the main characters
just to “tease” the viewers they will have no time to recover with the mid
season scheduling if a backlash develops due to fan anger. It will simply kill
the show. They now have time to come up with quality stories to move the
Chuck/Sarah relationship forward, so please Mr. Schwartz don’t blow it by
angering or disappointing the viewers, especially after a 10 month wait!
Seasons 1 and 2 have set everything up nicely. It is now time to move forward,
not backwards, so no more teasing please. Your viewers won’t stand for it.

I think it will probably between Morgan and Anna because if Julia Ling (Anna) has to leave they have to find Morgan a new girl :p. I am deffinitly rooting for a Jeffster love triangle lol. That would be the funniest watching Jeff and Lester trying to impress the same girl in stupid ways and screwing up horribly. But i have enough faith in the writers to be pretty sure Chuck and Sarah will pick up where they left off.
You said it well, Robert. Hopefully, HOPEFULLY, Josh and Chris (who we know are GOOD GUYS) will give we die-hards who have invested so much into this show “what we want to see!” It’s not like we’re asking for a Season 3 wedding, but if the Chuck/Sarah relationship stagnates, Season 3 will end up reeking as bad as a pool of stagnating water in the 100 degree summer heat! And NOBODY wants THAT!!
Maybe in addition to donating to the Have a Heart campaign to say thank you for the renewal we should be donating and sending the cards to Josh Schwartz and saying “Have a Heart keep Chuck and Sarah together”.

I agree with Dave. Don’t worry, everyone. The guys at Chuck haven’t failed us yet! I have full confidence that WHATEVER goes down in season 3 will be excellent.
Stay positive, friends! We got our favorite show back. Now it’s time to appreciate it!
I’m going to trust the writers. They have earned it, IMO.
Given how Ep2.22 ended (with the state of feelings/verbals between the characters)… I would suspect S3 to open w/ Chuck and Sarah split (both in emotional lockdown – atleast from each other). Infact, the 1st ep. could be done w/o Sarah at all (apart from an opening montage). From there, it would take several eps. to allow the two to reconnect (and require a serious phyical injury to Chuck?)
The problem seems to be that TV writers work to the idea that w/o main character relationship angst, there is no show. There were shows in the late 90s / early 00s that worked well w/o such angst. There are other sources for angst; job, external relationships, internal mental issues (Intersect?).

I will be psyched if the new love interest involves Casey and the girl that was supposed to be in the original cast, natalie martinez. Anyway some people are claiming she is the likely person to join the cast.
It would be cool if she could kick butt like Sarah. I would love to see her and Sarah having a little bit of a rivalry/silliness while casey and chuck are kind of scratching their head and wondering what to do.
I really hope that it is Casey who is involved in the romantic complications. Casey, Lester and miss X… now that would be hilarious!

lou federico has hit it on the head. there should be a romantic twist with sara and chuck behid the general’s and colonel’s back. what might be interesting is if in one or two episodes sara is the one to get jealous ie a love scene between chuck and a cutie baddie. of course not jill, but how about the red rose and wine that was “chucked” when byrce walked out of sara’s room. I wanted to kill byrce!!
I’d also like chuck to become gun savory as well as kung fu smart. what would happen if chuck “took the the shot” and the bullet richoted around the room and got the bad guy in the south pole. there is some humor to that. how about an episode and chuck flashes on the general not bad spy but a humorist trist that happened with a spy that the general knew in her past. I truly hope that the writers give us a great seson 3 with a more romantic chuck and sara.

Four thoughts on the love triangle if it would end up being Chuck, Sarah, and someone else.
1. Jill is still running around… If I remember right, she didn’t realize what she was getting into when she first joined Fulcrum. So maybe she has a change of heart and becomes a double-agent. Or would that be triple-agent???
2. Bryce is dead (or at least he sure looked it), but they could always bring back that MI6 agent who was interested in Sarah. If Chuck lets that new intersect power go to his head, and that Britt shows up again, I could see that happening.
3. The deli girl from Season 1 might have a change of heart.
4. In the extras on the Season 1 DVD, they talked about how there was originally supposed to be a love triangle between Chuck, Sarah, and one of Chuck’s neighbors. They ended up dropping the idea though (I think it was because they thought it would make things too complicated to start the series). When Chuck took Sarah to that club on their first “date” in episode 1, the original plan was for Chuck to be taking Sarah to the club in order to impress the other girl he was interested in. Apparently that was the other girl’s regular spot to hangout.
Anyway, I hope I’m wrong about all four (I think they’re a real longshot at most). It would be neat to have the love triangle involve someone else. Lester & Jeff would be good. I could also see (but wouldn’t like) a love triangle involving Morgan & Anna. And the fans definitely want things to work with Sarah & Chuck, so hopefully that will be left alone. I guess we’ll find out in 10 months or so…
Finally, I agree with Fstorm. I bet the writers, cast, and crew are laughing at us and our guesses!!!
PLEASE LET CHARAH LIVE!!!!!!! OOOOOh, I know, maybe Carina’s coming back and Morgan and Casey will fight for her? Or Ilsa and Carina might fight for Casey? I dunno, I just really want Casey to get a girl!!!

Judging the fun the writers have screwing with us i bet the love interest is something else. Remember the two wedding spoiler crap and the fun of making each title of an episode a play on words. Chuck vs the ring (marriage ring and new danger part of the ring. Much like casey’s love of the crown vic and morgan’s love or red bull. Maybe the open up a matchmaking service as a front operation. Who knows but the ride will be fun

there is no way they could not get together.
i mean obviously there will be a lot of drama and it wont be a a regular couple, they couldnt have that, but even if they have a seacret “fling” or something happens ona stake out,
theres no way anyone could deny the “i love her” or the fact that they reeeeally almost had sex.
they want the raitings so we all know that they will do somthing to keep us happy

Crazy idea, but I was just thinking that wouldn’t it be wild that since Chuck is a more valuable asset and since they have no idea how it works, Sarah has to keep a closer eye on him and this would mean that they would actually have to move in together this season! Wishful thinking I know but since the CIA isn’t allowed to monitor where she lives that’s a way to get the romance going without anyone knowing. Besides since Ellie and Awesome are now married I doubt Chuck is going to be comfortable still living with them.
Now I’ll go back to my dream state again.
No one’s mentioned it yet, so I’ll throw out my haphazard guess (or maybe it’s more of a “hope”). I think the complication in Chuck and Sarah’s relationship may be that they have to end their cover relationship for some reason (orders?). So instead of having a fake relationship with real tension underneath it; they could have a real relationship that they try to hide from everybody. Of course, this would probably lead to a few situations in which they inadvertently make each other jealous or angry.
Whatever happens, I have faith in the writers and producers who have gotten us this far, even if they continue to tease us with tortured platonic love stories (of course, I also like tortured platonic love stories; see “Pushing Daisies” for further evidence).
