Chuck Series Finale Set for January 27

NBC just sent out their midseason schedule which shows Who Do You Think You Are? premiering in the Friday at 8/7c timeslot on February 3. Does this mean Chuck will air its finale on January 27? If so, we will probably see a couple of back-to-back episodes to meet that date.

UPDATED: When I went back and read the narrative (not just the schedule) on NBC’s press release, it does in fact say that Chuck‘s season finale will air January 27, and it will be episodes 5.12 and 5.13 back-to-back.

Here’s what we know so far:

November 18: Chuck 5.04, “Chuck vs. the Business Trip”
November 25: No Chuck
December 2: No Chuck
January 27: Chuck 5.12,  Title TBA and 5.13, “Chuck vs. the Goodbye”

Here’s what we’re speculating:

December 9: Chuck 5.05, “Chuck vs. the Hackoff” and 5.06, “Chuck vs. the Curse”
December 16: Chuck 5.07, “Chuck vs. the Santa Suit”
December 23: No Chuck
December 30: No Chuck
January 6: Chuck 5.08, “Chuck vs. the Baby” and 5.09, “Chuck vs. the Kept Man”
January 13: Chuck 5.10, Title TBA
January 20: Chuck 5.11, “Chuck vs. the Bullet Train”

Or that’s totally wrong and NBC is holding the last few episodes of Chuck until March or April or May. We should have a clearer picture soon, but until then, what would be your ideal scenario? Are you in favor of marathoning episodes, or do you want to stretch them out as far into 2012 as possible?

  1. TVBTN is reporting a 2 hour finale in Jan 27. But 2 other doubles? That would take off Grimm which is their #1 new hit for 3 Fridays.

    Strange.

  2. I had already a feeling they would hold the second part of the season back until spring, and I kind of hope that’s what they do. I was so anxious for the season to start, but now that I’ve seen the first few episodes, I’m in no rush for the season to end. There’ll be 4-6 episodes for me to rewatch while I’m waiting, and then I can wait until April or May to say goodbye.

  3. In the midseason schedule, NBC in fact announced that there will be a 2-hour series finale on the 27th of January. That should answer any questions you had overlooked in the write-up.

  4. Thomas 'QuiTom' Wheeler

Even if it means ending earlier, I think, on the whole, I’d prefer them to marathon episodes and finish in January rather than having breaks… Some of those breaks during season three and four, even if ‘just’ for two/three weeks, were absolute murder!

And finishing earlier means I get to enjoy them earlier and rewatch them earlier… And forever after.

  5. I’m guessing that we will see Chuck on Dec 23rd and 30th.

    • This makes more sense to me, that means that 12/13 can be played on Jan 27 and the rest of the schedule makes sense as 1 hour episodes. Mel, has NBC actaully said no new episodes will air over the Xmas/New Year period? If we do get new eps, 23 will be Santa Suit… nice xmas gift!

      • It’s possible that new eps will air December 23 and 30, but traditionally none of the networks air new shows those weeks.

  6. I think the speculative schedule is probably a good one. I also think that running multi-episode nights may be for the best, if only to get the rest of the Chuck episodes out there for people to watch (especially since there are still no streaming venues for Chuck to be found on the legal sites I’ve visited.).

I’m going to guess that Grimm will be held back for a March to May run (maybe with some retooling to address a few issues) or it will be moved to a spot in the week where there is a hole (NBC has no shortage of those, although their situation has improved a bit this year thus far).

If TVBTN is accurate, then Chuck’s clock is ticking down — 75 days to go (including the Friday finale). 75 days to the curtain call.

  7. I just want my Chuck episodes.

When I first saw ‘2 hour finale’ I was hoping it meant just that. Man how epic would that be. But I’m guessing it’s just 2 episodes run together. And I was so hoping for an extra unexpected hour of Chuck.

  8. I thought the Christmas ep was airing after Christmas, but since this news came out, I guess that’s changed. I hope it’s wrong. Why? Because that date, 1/27, is the date of my husband’s birthday, and he will be 50!!!! Needless to say, I am hoping the date changes!!

  9. Interesting… this seems to be NBC’s way of showing all the episodes it promised and paid for, but taking as small a ratings hit as possible assuming the season continues with the same poor ratings we’ve had thus far.

  10. I was hoping that they would spread the eps out a bit so that they would last longer and when i saw the 2 hour finale I was hoping that it would be 1 ep not ep 12 and 13

    • Lest it look like I’m spamming the baords, I’d just point out there is multiple Ben’s around here it seems!

  11. What I want to know is how long after the finale until the DVDs are released for sale? I love to watch and rewatch and this season I have not been able to do that any – with no source to rewatch at. It has been awful…C’est la vie.

    • the dvds for most tv series normally go on sale in september/october

    • I wouldn’t be surprised to see them earlier than September. In fact, I’d be surprised to see them released in either Sept. or Oct. because usually that time is littered with shows that are returning in the fall, and I can’t imagine WB wants Chuck to get thrown in with that bunch.

I remember that Lost’s DVD’s would usually get released 2-3 weeks before the new season started, but then the final season was released in August (after the finale in May). I wouldn’t be surprised (and this is just speculation) to see the DVD’s out by April or May.

  12. I’m OK with marathoning episodes so long as the stories are tightly woven. Don’t want to watch 2 separate non-related episodes back to back.

In many ways this is better…I’d rather just see the last few episodes sooner so the Blu-Ray will come out sooner…

No way Chuck’s ratings will rise enough to justify another episode order.

  13. It doesn’t matter to me how NBC decides to show the episodes as long as they show all 13…

  14. Mel, why no Chuck on Dec. 2? I’m not surprised about none on the 25th because the networks like to show Christmas specials/movies on the day after Thanksgiving, but it doesn’t make sense to not air Chuck for 2 straight weeks. Might we see a schedule change and air 5.05 on Dec. 2, 5.06 on the 9th, and 5.07 on the 16th? That would still get the Christmas episode in before Christmas, and then they can marathon the last six episodes somehow between Jan. 6 and the 27th.

    • Walmart is sponsoring a family movie on the 2nd. It’s already on the schedule.

They aren’t going to change something that has a big sponsor like that.

This is a “burn off” for Chuck. Chuck is not the scheduling priority.

  15. I think they can air all the remaning episodes today, I don’t get people that want to drag this out till april/may, if they don’t want it to be over so soon just rewatch it a few hundred times or is it just me.

  16. This english fan has to wait for the dvd releases! Don’t torture me any longer please?!

  17. Do you think if we hold ‘save chuck’ again and be so so successful ,can we get another season?? i just can’t imagine my life without chuk !!

  18. I thought this was the series’ finale, not season finale?

  19. Ack! I’m never home on Friday, and have no DVR or cable. I always watch things on-line. Do you have any idea if/when they will make the Chuck episodes available?

If I knew that they were NOT going to make them available, I would try to find alternate ways, see if I could find someone to help me out….

Any help you can give is very much appreciated!

    • Advice: Stay home on Friday and watch.

      • I’d love to, honestly – but my kids have activities on Friday evening for the next few months so I can’t! Darned kids – just 5 more years until I can hand them the keys…. 🙂

      • Sorry. I don’t suppose there is a working VCR in a closet or garage somewhere. I know I have one….somewhere.

(I used to have drum corps practice every Friday night when I was young. My parents had to drive us until I turned 16)

  20. Hm..I’m trying to post but not getting the confirmation email?

  21. Josh Schwartz just tweeted :

    JoshSchwartz76 Josh Schwartz
Chuck will air 12/23 and 12/30 original episodes so I guess we will be the only thing not in repeats on ALL of tv.

    • That sucks I’m going to be on holidays the 23rd. Better hope like heck a power failure doesn’t screw up my pvr while I’m away.

  22. Any idea why NBC’s website isn’t showing full episodes form this season? Almost all the networks do that now.

  23. So I’m assuming by this news that the prospect of getting more than a 13 episode run this season is now impossible? I understood that there were 13 episodes definately scheduled with the possible option of a few more if the network wanted.

Is the possibility of more episodes still an option for the network or not?

  24. You know looking at the title for 5.08, I’m now wondering if Robbie was really hinting with his comment about a spin off where baby Claire puts the sunglasses on to download the intersect. Wouldn’t it be a hoot if for some reason she got hold of them and put the sunglasses on? Then they could have her talk like the etrade baby and say to Team Bartowski “Guys….I know Kung Fu”

  25. First, I cant believe this show isnt popular this show is my fav show on tv these days! Second, even though I love the show I dont want it to be dragged out….Its sorta like when a winner of a contest is going to be announced and they do the “and the winner is………………..5 min pause…….blah blah blah”. lol. Please show us our chuck and let us rewatch it over and over 🙂
