Yvonne Strahovski & Cheryl Ladd - "Chuck vs. the Baby"

Tonight on Chuck: “Chuck vs. the Baby”

Tonight’s episode of Chuck has been the subject of a lot of discussion, speculation, and sometimes nervous anticipation.  “Chuck vs. the Baby” is a Sarah-centric episode, featuring flashbacks, Sarah’s mom, and two babies – Clara and a mystery baby.

Sarah is forced to confront a secret from her past and feels she must do so alone, while Chuck urges her to let him help. When Sarah encounters her original handler, Kieran Ryker (guest star Tim Dekay), she fears that he will harm those closest to her, including her mom (guest star Cheryl Ladd). Adam Baldwin, Joshua Gomez, Sarah Lancaster and Ryan McPartlin also star.

Can. Not. Wait! “Chuck vs. the Baby” airs tonight at 8/7c on NBC. Need something to do in the meantime?

  1. NBC has released more photos from the episode. They aren’t too spoilery, but they show a blonde girl roughly five or six years old.

And they also seem to hint toward a happy story for Morgan and Alex.

  2. I’m checking my cable and it shows King Five Investigators instead of Chuck at 8 and it usually is! Why is it showing that it’s not on tonight!?!?!

  3. I would go so far as to say this is the most satisfying episode to date. In S1-alma Mater Bryce L. protested that the CIA could not force Chuck to sign up b/c Chuck would never survive. Chuck has too much heart, Larkin said. As Chuck’s journey farther and farther into the spy world has progressed that conflict has bothered me. This episode resolved all that. Now Sarah and Chuck are truly united in purpose and heart. What a tremendous resolution. This episode was finely crafted-the script, the action, the filming, Dekay’s villain, Sarah’s mom being so steady and sweet, Chuck quietly telling Sarah she was mistaken/wrong. I just can’t say enough about how I love this season. I still think Graham will hold the final clue to the entire intersect plan and conspiracy. And I WAS right, sort of…the baby did turn out to be Sarah’s “sister.”

  4. ah man!!! i hate waiting!!

    • I am right there with you. I am from the Seattle area, and to come home this evening and find out that Chuck was pre-empted till tomorrow at noon, what a major let down. I read it was pre-empted for an investigative report from 2007….really? Isn’t that considered old news, which really isn’t even news. ARRRGGGGGHH.
It is REALLY hard for me to not read any comments about this episode. But I read that this is the best episode of the season so I am going to try and resist.

  5. good episode but that continuity flashback with langston was unecessary considering the pilot was on completely different circumstances.

and i was right about it being her sister. sort of.

  6. I nailed it! I knew the baby either was her sister or brother.

  7. Question? When are we going to learn Sarah real name?

  8. Wow, just when you think a Chuck episode can’t get any better, they manage to do it.
Another one to add to my long list of favourites.
The gathering of the extended Bartowski family and mother/daughter reunion combination was so heartwarming. Stores across the continent will be running low on tissues.

As for Langston assigning Sarah to Chuck – I didn’t see that as a continuity error.
If you look, you will notice the broken device that Bryce sent the email on is beside the folder. So he assigned her to Chuck after the email was sent.

The fact that he called Chuck her asset was also not a continuity error, because if you recall in Nacho Sampler, Manoosh was called an asset, which Casey defined as a “conduit to information”.

Langston was looking for the Intersect, and Chuck was a conduit to that information.

The only real continuity error was that the folder had a picture of Chuck in it and in Nacho Sampler we see Sarah get a photo of Chuck on her phone as she enters the Buy More. To me it was a pretty minor continuity error.

    • Wasn’t Chuck referred to as an asset for the first 2 years of the show? Who’s calling that a continuity error? I don’t see her receiving a photo on her phone as an error, either, just refreshing her memory about what he looks like. You know those nerds, they all look alike. 😉

  9. Sarah gets the crap beat out of her two weeks in a row! That’s one tough
    Spy!

    • We sort of had a call back to Other Guy in this one. We see her waking up in Bed while Chuck is watching over her.

  10. this episode was amazing..teared up a bit when sarah was talking to her mom standing on the porch.

  11. Definitely the best episode of Season 5 so far (who wrote it?)

I thought Sarah feeling the need to do this mission alone was pretty out-of-character for her at this point, but the rest of the episode was so good that it was easy to forgive. And she did tell Chuck eventually.

Based on what I’ve heard, I’m not expecting it, but I do hope they bring Sarah’s mom back for the final episode(s).

  12. Aww that was one awesome episode. Just the right amount of action and drama.
A little disappointed that they still cant buy that house. I mean, hello? They have a private Jet, electronics store full of inventory, a Satellite, rockets and all that gear but they still cant put a down payment for that house? Why don’t they just sell of some of their stuff. Or better yet, why dont they demand the CIA/NSA to unfreeze their funds, they did save all of the government’s secrets by defeating Shaw and figuring out the Omen virus after all.

  13. OK so I am an idiot for overreacting. Great ep. 4 more to go people. So excited and sad at the same time.

  14. Maybe I missed something last night but Chuck was her first solo flight as a spy? What happened to the time spent in partnership with Bryce? She was supposed to be somewhat seasoned by the time she took on Chuck.

    • Chuck was her first SOLO mission, yes. Her time as Bryce’s partner was prior to the mission with Ryker that we saw in flashbacks. Did you notice the broken iPod on Graham’s desk in that last flashback? That’s the one that “rogue” Bryce used to send Chuck the Intersect. He and Sarah hadn’t been partners for a while at that point.

  15. Did anyone else notice that Sarah’s mom’s house was white, had a red door, and a picket fence, as Sarah described her dream house at the beginning of the season? I thought that was a very nice touch!

    • It was a great episode. Great performances from Yvonne and Cheryl Ladd. Really enjoyed Josh’s subdued performance in this episode. The hell with continuity. The episode was just so touching and endearing. Kudos to all.
