SUCCESS! Chuck Renewed For Third Season!

Multiple sources confirmed today that NBC will bring Chuck back for a third season consisting of 13 episodes. NBC will confirm this and announce when Chuck will air during their upfront presentation on May 19th. Unfortunately, to achieve this pickup, the show has to make some major budget cuts, including scaling back the number of episodes for some of the supporting cast and releasing two of the staff writers. A bit of a cloud on our silver lining, but at least we get more Chuck! Let the Nerd celebrations begin!

We want to take a minute to thank all of the fans who participated in the Watch/Buy/Share/Write campaign as well as the Finale & a Footlong campaign and the Have a Heart – Renew Chuck campaign. We are certain that the enthusiasm and intelligence exhibited with these campaigns had an impact on NBC’s decision, so a well-deserved pat on the back goes to each of you. We also want to thank the critics who joined the fans in championing Chuck, as well as the members of the cast and creative team who not only give us such a wonderful show but reached out to the fans to show their appreciation for our efforts. And special thanks to Chad who created most of the campaign graphics we’ve used, many of them without us even having to ask. When we launched the campaign effort in March, we hoped it would garner a little bit of attention but we had no idea it would become something of a phenomenon. Behold the power of Nerds!

Now that we are assured a Nerd Third, as Mo Ryan from the Chicago Tribune called it, we look forward to spending more time with Chuck fans during the summer hiatus. We have some plans for ways to keep the momentum going into the third season, as well as ways to keep ourselves occupied until September when we meet up again with Chuck, Sarah, Casey, Ellie, Awesome, Morgan and the entire Chuck clan. Stay tuned to ChuckTV.net for details coming soon.

Once again, well done, Chuck fans!

Today marks the tenth anniversary of the Chuck series finale. It feels like a decade …

  1. I had already bought the food and drink anyway, but now it’s 100% sure that there’ll be party tomorrow at my place 😛

Congratulations everyone, it was a massive struggle but in the end it paid off. But don’t get confortably numb now! The stairway to heaven we got today might taste like victory, but the real challenge has just begun. CHUCK NUMBERS MUST RISE!! The promotion and buzz must continue, efforts must be doubled, DVDs must be bought and fresh ideas must come forth. Chuck cannot fall, not even the recession or NBC’s downward spiral can stop us as long as we give it our best.

I personally want to give a massive thanks to Gray, Mel, Liz for spearheading this campaign and Wendy for her brilliant idea that surely marked the turning point in our struggle. Altough my spare time will soon shrink drastically, I will do absolutely everything I can to work with the Chuck fans in fighting for this wonderful show, and wait eagerly to know what’s in store for us this Summer.

Today is a beautiful day, let’s make sure that by this time next year we have another just like this.

  2. One of the new shows will probably flop and Chuck will get more episodes. Hopefully NBC will show 13 straight weeks of new episodes so the momentum will keep up and viewers will not disappear, that will give them a back 9 for sure. But 13 isn’t too bad Doctor Who is 13 episodes a season and every episode is usually top notch so One would assume every episode of Chuck will be a 10.

  3. I’m freakin’ out! That is incredible news. Now my fingers are all crossed for the extra 9!!! 🙂

  4. My wife and I already celebrated the news last night. We watched Chuck Vs. the Ring on the big screen TV with the stereo cranked up (and windows open) at about 11 p.m.

I am not as concerned about the budget cuts as maybe I should be?!? I don’t care what characters they de-emphasize as long as it is not Charah or Casey. Ellie and Devon are also important IMO. Starting with Morgan, the drop off in importance is pretty steep.

Also I don’t care one bit about the action/explosions/special effects/Nerd Herd mobile stuff, they can trim all that expensive stuff and it would not change the point of the show IMO.

  5. Well tbh , Nbc will do this 13 episodes as they had SOO much promotion from fans for the new renewal that they will want more so they will leave us hanging for a long time soo we do more promotions etc

But CHUCK RENEWAL! Good news has come at last 😀

  6. NERD WIN!

I’m gunna make sure to watch live and buy the S2 DVD set to show my support.

    VIVA LA CHUCK!

  7. Thank god!!! I have been waiting for this news for the past few weeks and now that I know we have another season to look forward to, I’m ridiculously happy! We definitely need to keep the momentum going to get a 4th (longer) season. 13 episodes is good but I want more!

  8. I’m thrilled that NBC has made the right choice. I understand the business end of it, and the show had to make some budget cuts to work with the network. But, the campaign should not end here just because “Chuck” has been renewed. We need to keep bringing viewers to the show and build up the ratings. If NBC sees the show can be a hit, they’ll order more episodes in the fall, and we’ll get a full 22-ep season.

I really see Leno failing at 10:00. By next spring, NBC will have five more hours to fill, and they’ll need good quality shows like “Chuck” to complete the schedule.

Now, as for “Chuck”, can we please see him and Sarah together for real?

  9. Terrific news about the renewal! I can sleep a little easier now.

When does the campaign for the back 9 start???? I need more than 13 episodes.

  10. We’ll be launching the campaign for more viewers in the third season in a few days. For now, take time to celebrate getting renewed!

  11. Fantastic news, :0)

  12. Awesome news guys!!! I’m actually in shock. Didn’t know we would get word early. I just hope all of the cuts will not effect the quality of the show. If other shows fail, maybe their order the second half of the season, bring back the two writers that were let go, and make the rest of the cast a bigger part of the show, once again. Now we at least have a chance.

  13. Is Chuck still going to be aired on Friday? God, I hope they air it on another day. Also, is there a possibility they will extend it to a full length season?

  14. @ Johnny:

I think they are going to air Chuck on Fridays, but at 8/7c.

    Why Fridays?
    – Best day for DVR and Online viewership increase. (Remember this little show called Dollhouse who was renewed?)
    – It’s a good day to win audience: Fox will have two comedies (including ‘Til Death) at 8/7c, and Dollhouse at 9/8c. If Chuck moves to 9/8c, it will be tougher to get audience. And I don’t mention CBS because… Well, you know why.

This is a good day to be a nerd…

  15. Hallelujah!!! Praise the Lord!! ‘CHUCK’ gets a third season!!!!!!!!!!!

I completely agree with everyone who says that we loyal fans need to keep the momentum going and shoot for more ‘CHUCK’ next season…and the next…and the next. But for today, we shall just enjoy the celebration !

  16. Great News…dare I say Awesome News! … I always believed that Chuck would be renewed, but to finally hear it officially is outstanding. I totally agree with starting a new campaign to get more viewers for Chuck season 3, which hopefully will lead to NBC giving us 9 more episodes in Spring. Also don’t forget to thank NBC!

  17. Can’t hardly wait for next season, gotta be AWESOME. And still going after the 9 short, but it’s better than 22 short. Hooooorah

  18. Hey Mel, Gray and Liz thanks for the good news and all your hard work that helped to make it happen! As you begin to think about a strategy for attracting more viewers for season three one thought came to mind. Several weeks ago Oprah helped to promote a free grilled chicken meal at local KFC restaurants and as you know they were overwhelmed with people trying to cash in on the deal. Why couldn’t Chuck fans email Oprah and ask her to use her promotional power to encourage new viewers to check out Chuck? The Internet and Twitter savvy Chuck fans certainly made a difference in NBC’s renewal decision and it would make an interesting subject for one of her shows (hopefully just before the start of season 3).

  19. If you want to let Oprah know that the Chuck fan renewal campaign would make a good subject for one of her upcoming shows you can go to Oprah.com and go to “Contact Us” and then fill out the email form for “show suggestions.”

  20. VIVA CHUCK!
    LONG LIFE FOR CHUCK!
    Fans all around de world!

  21. I wanted to say thank you to Mel, Liz and Gray for all their tireless efforts in making this in my opinion the best Chuck fan website with the best and most resources about Chuck. I look foreword to the next phase of the campaign strategy as we move toward the summer, trying to attract more fans, continuing to show NBC that Chuck is profitable to them as well as to the advertising sponsors. And a thank you to all my fellow Chuck fans that also contributed in the various campaigns. We really are a specially group of people. We won this battle, but we need to win the war! We have the determination to do it. Somehow someway we will make Chuck the number 1 show to watch!

  22. This is AWESOME! I’m so glad we get another season of Chuck. But there is no reason to stop the support. We should still continue the Have a Heart campaign. And also, if Chuck is on a new night, we have to get better ratings. Tell all your friends, blog about it, put it up on facebook, we need as many people as possible to watch Chuck!

  23. I’m so darn excited! Let’s keep the momentum going until September!
Nice work everyone that participated in the watch/buy/share campain and all the other campaigns! These news made my day!

  24. Thank goodness Chuck was renewed for a third season, I’m so excited about I can’t wait to see it.

  25. OMG, I’m with everyone here. I just thought i’d come see if there was any news and to my surprise we get this great piece of news. OK, it’s not a full season and we lost a few people but at least we get a new season of CHUCK.
If we’re able to get the ratings up and create lots of buzz maybe like season 1 the network will all more episodes and we’ll get a full season.
I can’t wait for the great news to appear officially tomorrow and new ways to keep the excitement going.

  26. YES! My purchase of season one and pre-season two Dvd’s, with my letter to NBC’s Ben Silverman did the trick and so on and so on with the other fans!

Now we have the problem of waiting for September. Hey I’ll have the DVD’s !

Great News to all the Supporters!

  27. To quote the great homer simpson WHOO HOOO !!!!!!! yes the chuck fans have saved our show yes we might have to lose some writers “ouch” and some of the cast members won’t be back right away “sob” but we have season 3 so I will take it alright my fellow Nerd Herders we still have a ton of work to do like getting more people on the chuck wagon keep up the subway on chuck nite and keep making donations to the AHA things like that will keep the pressure on the networks to find a way to keep other good shows on the air sorry terminator fans anyway we did an awesome job getting them to keep the show now all they need to do is give us a better time slot and we can give more people the chance to fall in love with our amazingly awesome show

    Nerd Herd 4 Life !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S check out the Jeffster band site on NBC.com to see their upcoming tour dates.

  28. hopefully the first 13 episodes will go great and maybe just maybe they might put out another 13 episodes for an extra season a few months after

  29. I AM SOOOO EXCITED THAT CHUCK IS RENEWED. I GOT A TEAR OF HAPPINESS IN MY EYE WHEN I CLICKED ON THIS WEBSITE AND THE AWESOME WORD RENEWED! POPPED UP! HOORAY WoW.

  30. This is fantastic. I know the networks are going after the 18-49 demographic, but I think they are missing something. I purchased a $300 dollar ipod just to watch season two which I purchased on itunes. I also purchased season 1 dvd and plan to purchase season 1 on itunes. I will eat extra subways to support this show. I will be 56 this year!!!

  31. alex,

The exact formula they use is 13episodes+9 meaning they can pick up nine episodes extra for the spring which is exactly what they did last year (for 22 total) and what they meant to do in season one but the writer’s srike ruined it.

Believe me, they will pick up the +9 episodes if we all tune in and watch the show and bring a couple friends as well to check the show out.

  32. GREATTTTTTTTT !!!!!!!!!!!

im happy and all chuckfans in ( chuck-france.net ) are happy too !!!!!

ty NBC, ty gray and all peeps from chuck tv and podcast and all fans from the world

    long life chuck

    Chuck Me 🙂

  33. Anyone heard if they are going to do reruns of season 2 over the summer? That would be a great way to boost viewership coming into season 3. Any info on this?

  34. I hope they keep jeffster!!!

  35. i fell asleep watching chuck episodes and then i woke up with this news! this, in seemingly countless ways, made my day! now my prayers will be on having the additional 9 chuck episodes. congratulations chucksters!!!

  36. Could you please post the addresses again for Ben Silverman and Angela Bromstad so we can be sure to mail them letters of “thanks.” They should receive just as many “thank yous” from us as they did “Save Chuck” letters. It’s good manners – and good P.R., too. Thanks – and Peace all!!

  37. YAAAAAY Thank God for Chuck!!! We can see all the complications of Chuck’s new life as a badass!!! What’ll our favorite blundering nerd be like with his kung fu?? CHUCK I LOVE YOU <3

  38. AWESOME dudes! chuck ruled the tv shows! yea!!!

  39. As a fellow Chuck supporter, I share the same sentiments as many of you. Excited that we will have a season 3 and also disappointed with a 13 episode schedule and downsized cast and loss of creative personnel. I would like to propose that the fellows at NBC have a contest to allow for fans like us to submit possible plot stories for some of these episodes. It would be a great way for fans to connect to the show and give NBC some positive publicity. Please let me know, if you any of you share the sentiments or if this is a crazy whole in the wall idea.

  40. WOOT!!! This is exciting. Wow…everyone pulled together to make it happen. My wife and I are extremely happy to hear Chuck was renewed. This said though…we can’t loose sight of doing stuff to pump up the series. Is there anyway to find out a list of major sponsors for a show at the start of the season? I’m not suggesting people buy stuff they don’t need, but we should continue to show a little (or lot) of fan love to the sponsors who support the show. And we are going to continue to eat footlongs. In fact, having one tonight as we watch a Chuck rerun. THIS IS GREAT!!!

  41. OH MY F***ING GOD THANK YOU GOD!!!!!!
I DONT EVEN CARE THAT ITS ONLY 13 EPISODES ITS STILL COMMING BACK!!!!!
although the pessimest in me is thinking that it was NBC’s way of delaying the cancellation by giving the fans time to calm down about it.
    WHATEVER

    MORE CHUCK
    YEAHHHSSSS

VIVA BUYMORIA….OR WHEREEVER THE CHUCK NERDS ARE WORKING NOW!

  42. WOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOO!
:] That just made terrible day 1000000x better!
Don’t forget what Levi says though, this is only the beginning!!

  43. We need to expand the fanbase and start a new campaign for NBC to order 9 more
episodes for a full third season. Need to increase the hits on NBC website and watch episodes in order to get a full 3rd season of 22 episodes and begin work for a 4th season. Also need to continue with strong advertiser support,
contact NBC to thank for renewal, and to request a full season of 22 episodes,
as well requesting a 4th season. In order to make this happen ratings
NEED and MUST get better. The ratings fan base in the 18-49 age group must
increase substantially. All of above must be done at start of 3rd season and
throughout the coming viewer year on a consistent basis if the 3RD season is
to be expanded and a 4th year renewal done. If all of this happens maybe the budget cuts can be restored. Thanks to everyone for all of their hard work
but it can’t end here. The effort to retain “Chuck” must continue to be an
ongoing project. Otherwise the show will die. Remember 13 episodes is just a
tentative, not a full commitment by NBC for a entire 3rd season, not to mention the possibility for a 4th season. It all depends on viewer support,
which means all of us plus new viewers. Keep up the good work!

  44. Considering that it is just about a 2 week period since the start of the American Heart Association campaign it should be interesting to see what the total is in September when the first season 3 episode is shown. Also maybe there should be a donation drive to the WB going directly to the budget for Chuck? Imagine the PR from that. That would really make the news if the fan base becomes esentially investors of the show. It also would give a voice to the fans outside the US that NBC tends to over look.

  45. @Rick Holy, you can send your thank you notes to NBC via the AHA campaign at http://weheartchuck.blogspot.com/. For every donation made, the AHA will send either Ben Silverman or Angela Bromstad a note of “heartfelt thanks for renewing Chuck”. Yes, Halley, it will be wonderful to see how far we can get by September. With increased totals, PR can only grow, further spreading the word of Chuck. Thank you ChuckTV.net, and thank you Chuck fans for being awesome!

  46. YAYAYAYAYYAYAYAYAYA
    I’M SO FRIGGING HAPPY.
I PRAYED EVERY NIGHT ABOUT IT AND IT WORKED!
    WOOHOO!.
    CHUCK WIN!

  47. YES!!! I have been checking the site every few days and searching anywhere for some sign of a renewal!!! Thats brilliant!!!
Fans in the UK should be taken into account too!!!
    YAY CHUCK!!!

  48. Checking the www.nbc.com/Chuck page also confirms the renewal as “FAN-TASTIC”

  49. Just found out that Season 3 won’t be released until March, 2010. That info is straight from NBC’s website. So I guess we shouldn’t hold our breath about them extending the season to 22 episodes for season 3. Not unless we can convince a ton of people to watch the show online, and to buy the DVDs!

    Still, at least it’s back!

  50. Of course we could continue campaigning to bring it back in the Fall, and to extend it. . .
